Normative business ethics lacks coherence and has not dealt with aspects of complicated issues such as climate change adequately in the past. Therefore, the prospect of current issues associated with AI is uncertain, especially given the radical changes that it will bring.

Business ethics through the lens of moral psychology is still not providing the right guidance to corporations. The potential for blind spots is particularly real in dealing with AI. There is a risk that: changes will be forced on people with poor explanations as to why they may be fair and ethical, there will be little regard for consent and the idea that opposition to changes could be seen as resistance.

AI/automation will test business ethics in the same way that health issues have previously done with health ethics. Ethical issues that AI/automation pose are difficult and complicated. They include:

Job losses on a scale that will disproportionately affect certain members of society,
Privacy,
Liability,
Defining what ethical logic AI “Beings” should have.

Currently Director of National Centre for Ethical Leadership at University of Melbourne in Australia. He is a specialist in working with leadership teams and in leadership development of listed companies, public sector organisations, as well as national sporting teams. He was a consultant at McKinsey & Company where he worked in leadership development, team work and cultural transformation for Australian business and government CEOs as well as Chiefs of Defence. Peter previously worked at McKinsey&Co, was a former adviser and speechwriter to two Australian Cabinet Ministers in Health and Foreign Affairs. He was also member of Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and Catholic Priest between 1981-1995.
